Welcome Onboard Kahuna !

Captain: Bill Englehart, born in 1943, has been sailing for over 25 years, with most of his experience during this time in the Caribbean. After completing a tour of duty as a Marine Corps pilot, he arrived in the Virgin Islands in 1971 on his 70’ Danish coaster schooner.

The next 12 years were spent cruising, chartering, and racing in the Caribbean. During this time, he managed to sail two transatlantic crossings as well as many boat deliveries between the Caribbean and the States. For the next eight years, Bill operated his own Air Taxi business in New Mexico and in Florida, but always maintained his passion for sailing; just waiting for the next boating phase in his life. Finally, four years ago, the opportunity arose to purchase the beautiful 72’ Ketch "Kahuna", which he has been chartering ever since. Bill was raised in South Florida, graduated from Florida State University with a finance degree, and attended U.S. Navy Flight School.

He is an avid sailor, pilot and golfer with a passion for diving, snow skiing and beach volleyball. He speaks some Spanish. Chef Candela Sanchez is a recent and most welcome addition to the Kahuna crew. She has been living in the Virgin Islands for many years and is an experienced charter chef. Ashore in St. Thomas, Candela has set up and operates a bed and breakfast in downtown Charlotte Amalie.

Candela was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina and, naturally, is fluent in Spanish as well as English. While in Argentina, Candela had her own catering business and also taught several courses on cooking at a health spa in Buenos Aires. She has traveled extensively and enjoys meeting new people. She is also scuba certified. Bill and Candela look forward to seeing you aboard Kahuna and we will strive to make your Caribbean dream vacation a memorable experience
