Captain
Jerry Roos and Chef Heidi Roos met while
in the Caribbean. They had both ended up
there for a reason: a desire to achieve the
kind of success in the yachting industry that
they had respectively held in their previous
fields. Brought together side by side at the
Tortola boat show, it was love at first
sight. Although Jerry had been a professional
captain for seven years and Heidi a
professional chef for five years, they
confess to having had the most enjoyable
times together. Now married for over five
years, they compliment one another even more
as a team. They have both come to the same
conclusion: working on a yacht as a team is
as important to its success as it is to a
successful relationship.
Jerry
is very calm and easy going. He has the
ability to converse on many topics and on all
levels. In addition to his safling abilities,
he can draw upon over 10 years experience
owning an automotive repair company to fix
any mechanical or electrical problems.
Boating
since a boy, Jerry set the goal of becoming a
professional captain in 1984. Aware that more
than a license is required to navigate the
oceans safely, Jerry has taken instruction
along the way in everything from safety and
first aid to celestial navigation. After
receiving his first license in 1990, he
proceeded to work his way up to the 100 ton
master he now holds.
With
experience in everything to do with yachting
from overseeing the construction of two
yachts and a complete refit of another,
combined with the experience that nearly
50,000 ocean miles brings, Jerry has proven
himself to be an able seaman.
Heidi
is friendly and congenial. What's more, her
cooking will win you over! Besides Heidi's
graduation from the Culinary Institute of
America to her credit she has also had a
number of articles, including some of her
recipes, published in Gourmet Magazine. A
keen swimmer and snorkeler, Heidi had the
rewarding experience in the summer of 1992 of
saving a child from drowning by applying CPR.
For this she received an Outstanding Citizen
Award - quite an honor for a British citizen
in the U.S.
Both Heidi and Jerry
took a two month holiday recently in Europe
and used it as an opportunity to expand their
views and Heidi's repertoire. Letters of
recommendation are always available upon
request.
